August 2026 Update

Dear All,

It's August! I hope you have all enjoyed the summer and are looking forward to the shifting seasons as the weeks draw on.

America's Tapestry has now been on view at the Muscarelle Museum of Art for nearly two months - how the time has flown by! If you would like to plan your visit, be sure to do so before it closes on Sunday, September 6th. Turnout at the exhibition has been a triumph and we are so grateful to our partners at the Muscarelle for providing such a gorgeous inaugural venue for our project.

In just four weeks, the panels will travel to their next venue, the Seton Hill Arts Center in Greensburg, PA, where they will be on display for the month of September in the Harlan Gallery. To learn more about the venue and their opening hours, visit the link provided here.

America's Tapestry Heads Overseas!

I am thrilled to share that the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs has invited America's Tapestry to represent the United States at the Hungarian Festival of Folk Arts in Budapest this month. We will be joined by other distinguished American artists from across several disciplines as the United States is recognized as the Guest of Honor country in this year's festival. Stitcher Spotlight: Meet Regina Thek!

Regina Thek is an embroiderer on the Virginia tapestry panel. A resident of Williamsburg, Virginia, she has been stitching for 60 years. Regina learned the art of needlework from her mother, who learned from her mother before her. In turn, Regina has taught her daughters and granddaughters. She has also attended EGA classes, but her journey has been primarily self-taught. Prior to joining America's Tapestry, Regina practiced surface embroidery, stump work, and three-dimensional embroidery. She has entered her work in many competitions and has been awarded recognition more than ten times.

While working on the panel, Regina's favorite stitch is the outline, because it offers details and nuances to every work of art. As a re-enactor and dancer, she feels connected to the 18th century in Virginia, having participated at Public Times events and performed at the Governor's Palace. Regina joined the project because she thought it was a great way to celebrate the 250th anniversary and show through tapestry the accomplishments of our country. Since joining, she has learned about the strengths of Aberdeen and the men who worked in the mines, which she sees as the beginning of the melting pot of the United States.
