Stitchers

Krista Shook
Stitcher, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina
Krista Shook is a visiting embroiderer who has contributed to ten of America's Tapestry's panels — Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and South Carolina. Based in Georgia, she has been stitching for more than fifty years, having learned piecing and hand-stitching from her great-grandmother, simple embroidery from her mother, and counted cross stitch through a Girl Scouts badge.
Her needle arts range across beading, cross stitch, counted work, goldwork, pulled and drawn thread embroidery, surface embroidery, and mixed media, and across the panels she has taken on padding, couching, chain stitch, and more. She has a personal connection to ten of the thirteen states — places she or her family once lived — and where she had none, she made new connections through the stitchers she met. She was drawn to the project by its celebration of untold stories and the scope of its community involvement. Her hope for America is unity, as one nation under God.
